In their book Shake: A New Perspective on Cocktails, college BFF's turned business partners* Eric Prum and Josh Williams have us swooning. They take our love of a seasonal and straightforward approach to cooking and entertaining, and apply it to crafting cocktails.
From the book, which is available to purchase at the shop and online, here's their perspective:
Cocktails should be fun.
If they're not fun, why make them?! How do you keep them fun Be creative. Use interesting ingredients you find at the market. Improvise on a recipe you have mastered. Take cocktails with you on the go. (This is so easy with The Mason Shaker!)
Cocktails should be simple.
Your ingredient list for a cocktail should include at maximum, five items - and be seasonal and fresh!
Cocktails should be social.
Drinking alone is acceptable on some specific occasions like after a bad breakup or while waiting for others to drink with. But they're so much better when shared. Cocktails naturally bring people together. Don't believe us? Bring a delicious cocktail to the next house party you're attending and see what happens.
After a long summer, we're ready for the weather to turn cooler and embrace traditional Autumn flavors. (No, not pumpkin spice!) We're talking fall fruits, savory herbs, and warm spices.
Lucky for us, Eric and Josh have the perfect concoction for the season - the Rosemary Maple Bourbon Sour.
Dark amber maple syrup lends a deep, rich, sweet note to this herbaceous take on a Whiskey Sour. A single barrel, high rye straight bourbon whiskey distilled right up the road at Southern Distilling Company in Statesville really takes this drink up a notch!
Bourbon, maple syrup, lemon juice, and rosemary + a fun, simple and social recipe = the perfect fall cocktail!
